Ambrose son of John & Ruth is found in the 1790 Census in Halifax Co Va. Chart found in the Census Charts of the Book " The Foster Family " copy righted 1973 by the American Genealogical Research Institute in Arlington , Va.
As for Ambrose son of John & Ruth I list a son John named after Ambrose' Father John.
WLF Note : My research shows the Fosters , Perkins , Taylors and King Families of Colonial Va and then Carolina lived near each other ; Migrated together ; and inter married. (see Caswell County Marriages)available on line via Goggle search !!!!!
At this time until further investigation I am not listing Joel Lewis Foster as a son of this Ambrose as others have since there is a possiblity Joel Lewis Foster was a son of another Ambrose Foster who Immigrated from Ireland with his brother Thomas and their father Andrew. My reason is 2005 Foster DNA marker test results. refer to http://www.fosterdna.org/
Family report to Familytreemaker by Granville Murphy does not link Joel Lewis and father Ambrose to John and Ruth Foster but to An Irish Immigrant Andrew Foster . This Ambrose had no son John I believe. Thus the confusion in Caswell Co NC.
