Biography

Robert Alexander Foster was born Nov. 16, 1850 to Thomas Boyd Foster and his 1st wife Eleanor (Cowan) Foster. He became blind in one eye from a percussion cap when he was a little boy.[1] Too young to fight in the Civil War, he stayed behind and helped his father clandestinely plant corn 5 miles down the mountain and then sneak it back to the cabin when harvested.

In 1880, Robert escorted his father to Comanche Co., Texas to visit his brothers Andrew Boyd and Hugh Caperson. Together they returned to Alabama, but on Nov. 21, 1881, Robert set permanently for Texas. He raised cattle and made enough to buy a farm.

He sought out and married childhood friend Margaret Tennessee "Tennie" Wallace on Dec. 28, 1886 in Marshfield, Missouri where she had gone to her sister after the death of their mother in Alabama.[2][3]

Together they became parents of Mary Maye (Foster) Vernon, Bessie Foster, Hattie Little (Foster) Rachels, Hugh Wallace Foster, Katherine Foster, and Robbie Foster.

Robert passed away on Jan. 27, 1897 in Sipe Springs, Texas and was buried at Sipe Springs Cemetery in Comanche Co., Texas .
