Lucy Arline (nee: Foster) Gaetano, age 96, peacefully entered eternal life on Monday, December 22, 2014.

Arline was born February 16, 1918 to the late David Franklin and Mary Louise (nee: Carrier) Foster. She grew up on a homesteaded dairy farm, one of ten siblings, very proud of her Foster heritage. Arline often talked about how she walked two miles to country school after milking two cows every morning. At age 16, she attended business college in Minneapolis. For many years of her adult life she worked as an executive secretary.

In 1941 she ventured to Washington, D.C. to work for the federal government, where she met and married her husband, Anthony Gaetano. They had five children: Nancy, Denny, Dave, Dino, and Maureen. Being a mother, and her Catholic faith, were always most important to Arline. Among her many interests, Arline especially valued education, music, dance, and art. She played piano most of her life and began painting in her 60s, and at age 67 earned her college degree. She often said, “Even at my age, I’m still learning.” Another driving force in her life was maintaining healthy living through good nutrition and daily exercise, which surely contributed to her almost 97 years of age.

Arline is survived by her daughters Nancy Flynn and Maureen Aldrin, her son Dave Gaetano, and many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Lorraine Rings and Genevieve Koehler, brother Virgil Foster, her sisters-in-law Millie Foster and Marlene Foster, and many wonderful nieces and nephews and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Arline was preceded in death by her sons Dino Gaetano and Denny Gaetano, and her grandson Michael Gaetano. She was also preceded by her brothers Earl Foster, George Foster, and Ben Foster, infant brothers Joseph and Robert, her sisters Florence Clark, Lila Patterson, and Mary Church.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cass Lake, MN on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 11:00AM, with her nephew Rev. Thomas Foster officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake. Friends and family are invited to gather for refreshments at the church.^[1]
