Biography

William Fowler, son of Thomas Fowler and Hannah Jordan, was born on 8 June 1668 in Amesbury, Essex, Massachusetts. [1]

William married Hannah Dow, daughter of Joseph Dow and Mary Sanborn, about 1691 in Salisbury/Amesbury. Torrey in New England Marriages Prior to 1700 gave the marriage year as 1692, but based on the birth of their first child on 4 April 1692 the marriage more likely took place in 1691.[2]

William was a snow-shoe man.[3] “He, like his father, held all the most important offices in Amesbury, and represented it in 1709.” [4]

On October 2, 1727, Thomas, father of William, bequeathed “…. to my well-beloved son William fowler, forty Ackers of that Lot of Land that I bought of Jems George, in AMESBURY."[5]

Death and Estate

The exact date of William’s death is unknown. Although the will bears a date of 16 October 1735, it was not probated until 1745.[6] Therefore, William's date of death falls somewhere within that range of dates -- most logically closer to the year 1745. William's wife, Hannah, apparently predeceased him.
