Biography

Sarah was the daughter of William Fowler And Mary Thorne. She married Richard Woolsey in New York.

Richard Woolsey and Sarah Fowler, were prosperous, energetic and patriotic parents of eight boys (seven of whom served in the Revolutionary War) and four daughters (who married two Rev. War Soldiers). Most of their children remained in New York, inching their way up the Hudson River Valley. [1]

The story of the life and times of the Reverend Thomas Woolsey, Sr., a pioneer Primitive Baptist minister, is long overdue to be told. He was born and raised in comfortable circumstances, though not wealthy. His father, Thomas Woolsey Sr. a well-to-do farmer and family were prominent and influential in Westchester and Ulster Counties, New York. Thomas Woolsey was the eldest son in the large family of Richard Woolsey [1697-1782] and Sarah Fowler Woolsey, who both came from the New Amsterdam and Long Island area. He was poised to inherit, as the eldest son, a considerable property. But Thomas, at age 52, turned his back on worldly fortune, choosing to brave the hardships, privations and dangers of the western frontier, to spread the “Good News” in the wilderness and settled his large family upon the rich bottom lands at “St. Clare’s Bottom”, of the South Fork of the Holston River of Fincastle, now Washington County, Virginia, before 1771. In this endeavor, he was supported wholeheartedly by his wife, Elizabeth Waters Woolsey.

Marriage date: 1718 Marriage place: Jamaica, Queens, NY

Kelly, Just noticed Sarah Fowler (b. 1697) & Richard Woolsey (b. 1698) are listed as married 1700. Needs checking - looks marriage should be in 1720s.

Kelly, Many thanks for your BIO note. I just found yesterday in a lengthy "Time Line" of Rev. Thos. a 2nd source for hi marriage to EliZ; i.e., ` =2nd source for Rev. Thos. Woolsey marriage to Eliz. Waters

LDS Nauvoo, ILL Baptismal Records of the Dead in which the proxy (stand-in) for his great grandfather Rev, Thos. Woolsey was Robert Woolsey, the older brother of Sarah Woolsey who married George Washington Hickerson. Baptismal records stated that Rev. Thomas had two wives; Sarah Pierce & Elizabeth Waters. It is possible that Eliz. was d/o Anthony Waters Jr. of Jamaica, Long Island, NY

Fowler-1547 and Fowler-422 appear to represent the same person because: I added source records and website trees to confirm family connection. Please merge.
Fowler-1547 and Fowler-422 are not ready to be merged because: I have tried several times to merge the individual with no success. I thought doing this woululd do the trick. Someone entered the married name as the birth name of Sarah

Fowler-422 and Fowler-1547 appear to represent the same person because: I have removed spouse John and first born child. Also fixed DoD.
What I purpose, disconnect, John Woosley* Woosley-10 from this Sarah, although the first son, born in Virg. is his son. Woosley-17

This Sarah was born in NY. And died in NY. John lived in Virginia and Thomas Moses Woosley* from Ireland was his Father. Not the England line. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=thomaswoosley&id=I305

Fowler-1547 and Fowler-422 do not represent the same person because: Although the 2 Sarahs appear to be the same person, (1) the 2 spouses are different & (2) the sons; Thomas (who married a "Pierce" & Thos.Moses who married a" Walters" have different surnames, Birth date/locatios & death date/locations.. Sarah's son (my 5g grandfather) WAS Thos.Woolsey. s/o Richard - NOT Thos.Moses Woosley s/o John.

Fowler-1547 and Fowler-422 are not ready to be merged because: I would love to connect the two, but Sarah Fowler's husband was Richard, not John. Gini Tree has John,https://www.geni.com/people/John-Woosley/6000000021476765057 But Rootsweb has Richard. http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=snilr&id=I00171 The later having much more data and was uploaded by Jack Templton.
Fowler-1547 and Fowler-422 appear to represent the same person because: both profiles are attached to the same parents and have the same birth year and place
