George studied medicine with his father, then married and moved to northern Indiana to emulate his brother Henry who was practicing medicine and developing real estate at Bristol. George bought land in Mishawaka and had it subdivided, but died in a malaria epidemic in Illinois before he could develop it; he died quite far west of his home, perhaps looking for new real estate. His widow returned to her hometown of Pawling, NY with their infant son Archie.
Buried by the Mississippi River, next to a large rock marked "GWF".
