Biography

Benjamin Fox was born about 1688 in New London, Connecticut. [1] His parents were Samuel and Joanna Fox. [1]

He was a soldier in the Wood Creek Expedition in 1709. [1]

On December 15th, 1709 he purchased land in Colchester. [1]

He married Azubah / Azuba Tuttle on April 13, 1710 in New Haven, Connecticut. [1] [2] [3]

Her parents are unidentified. [2]
It has been suggested that she may have been the daughter of Simon and Abigail (____) Tuttle. [3]
It is possible that she was born in New London, New London, Connecticut or New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut.

Research Notes

  • Thomas Fox Of Concord and His Descendants by William Freeman Fox pub. in Albany, N.Y. by J. B. Lyon Company, Printers (1909) page 8 says "Again, in relation to two Benjamin Foxes of the third generation---- the Benjamin who dwelt in New London, and the Benjamin who dwelt in Colchester--- the former has been with much persistency treated as the son of Samuel (2), and the latter as the son of John (2), when the New London records, as well as Hempstead's Diary, show beyond question that the reverse was the case."
  • Second Reference; " Descendants of Thomas Fox of Concord, Mass. (through his fourth son) JOHN FOX of New London, Ct. (Five Generations) by Dr. George Henry Fox #145 East 54th St. New York, New York page 5 shows Benjamin Fox married to Naomi Rogers with a son, Benjamin Fox, Jr. married to Abigail Brockway." I do not have the following references so I do not know the source of the information published in them. I do have the books listed at the start of this list that I have quoted.

This Benjamin Fox did not die 26 Feb 1745. That was the death of Benjamin Fox. This is proven by the will of that Benjamin probated in New London in 1745. I have removed the death date, which will eliminate further confusion with the other Benjamin.

Hello Steve, I have added the two Fox Family Genealogies which gives your correct Fox Family Lineage. I do not have a copy of the references that you site so I don't have any idea where they got their information on the Fox Family from but something is terribly wrong and confused.

Hi Shaun, I have changed your Fox Lineage as you claimed the wrong parents for your Hannah Fox Powers. If you can check the Book, Thomas Fox of Concord and His Descendants by William Freeman Fox pub. in 1909 by J. B. Lyon Company, printers Albany, N.Y. page 28 & 29 you will find that Benjamin & Azubah (Tuttle) Fox did not have a daughter Hannah Powers. Also check The Descendants of Thomas Fox of Concord, Mass. through his fourth son JOHN FOX of New London, Ct. (Five Generations) by Dr. George Henry Fox of New York, New York see page 5, it shows your Hannah Fox born: 1728 Died: 1793 married to Michael Powers. Your Hannah was a half-sister of my ancestor, Benjamin Fox, Jr. who married Abigail Brockway. They were son & daughter of Benjamin Fox & Naomi Rogers. Been research Fox fam. 45 yrs.
