"Addendum to the pistol story: Grandpa loved to go to new doctors. He would complain of pain in the wrist. The doctor would look at it in the fluoroscope (remember those?) and have the expected shocked reaction." ~ Jean (Fox) Kelleher, granddaughter

"Grandpa Fox (William). He was playing with a family pistol while rocking a younger sibling and shot himself in the hand. The bullet stayed in his wrist for the rest of his life.

"When his family moved back to NY from (Steubenville) Ohio, “Willie” age 10 or so, attended St. John’s school. The nuns wore headpieces that hid the shape of their heads. Willie tapped the back of one’s head – was caught and was reprimanded. “Maybe you got away with that with the Dominicans, but not with the Sisters of Charity.” He left school at age 12.

"Grandpa’s first job was driving a horse and wagon, delivering for Batterman’s on Union (or Myrtle Avenue) and Broadway.

"He married Marie (Mamie) Gaertner who came over with her mother (and father?) and siblings Carrie and George, from Germany at the age of about 2. Her father was named Peter. Her sister, Katie, was born in this country. Her mother was Barbara Gaertner (nee Kolp or Kalp).

"In later years he worked for Merganthaler Linotype as an operator on some kind of machinery producing brass parts. Earlier, he had worked as a tuner for organs.

"He suffered his first heart attack about 4 years before he died." ~ Bill Fox, grandson, based on discussion wiith Marie Fox, daughter
