Biography

Joseph was the 3rd son of John and Frances (Lightfoot) Fox. Joseph married Susanna Smith on October 6, 1730 in Spotsylvania, Virginia.[1] Book states 6 Aug 1729.

4 Thomas^ Fox (Hcnry,^ John>) married, about 1707, Mary, daughter of Edmund Tunstall, of King and Queen county, and Catherine, his wife, who married 2dly Richard Wyatt, of King William county. {Virginia Maga::ine, IX., 310.) They had is- sue: 6 Joseph Fox, of Planover county, who married Susanna Smith in 1730 {Spotsylvania County Records, 84). She was the sister of Thomas Ballard Smith, of Louisa, who names her in his will. Thomas Ballard Smith was son of William Smith, one of the sons of Major Lawrence Smith, of Gloucester county. 7 Thomas Fox, of Spotsylvania county, who married Philadelphia, daughter of Col. William Claiborne, of Romancoke; 8 probably Richard, named for Richard Wyatt.

6 Joseph* Fox {Thomas,^ Hcnry,^ Johii^) and Susanna Smith, his wife, appear to have had issue : 9 Elizabeth, who married Mer- edith Price, of Louisa. Issue: Nathaniel West Fox, b. Oct. 25, 1768; John Fox, b. June i, 1770; Kate, b. Dec. 5, 1772; Jean Bal- lard, b. Feb. 2j, 1777.
