Jeffrey-McEntire Family Records say: "Elisabeth Fox was born in England Aug. 9, 1792. She came to New York State as a "bound girl." She worked off her indenture and married John McEntire Aug. 6, 1810 to whom she bore ten children. John McEntire died in 1829. She married Richard Gordinier May 10, 1830. The occupation of her two husband is not known. One thing is certain, they were not rich or of noble birth--they were probably menial workers."
Elizabeth Gordinier (various spellings) appears on multiple census records for the McEntire, Jeffrey, and Smith families, listed as a mother or grandmother. However, all the census records say that she was born in Pennsylvania. There is a town called London, Pennsylvania; she may be from there.
Richard Gordinier worked as a whitewasher in Rochester NY and in Orleans County NY. Elizabeth and Richard apparently divorced between 1855 and 1860; she moved to Michigan and he married Louesa.
Jeffrey family records list these ten children from Elizbeth's marriage with John McEntire:
The Jeffrey Family Records also list son? Gordinier and Anson Gordiner (29 Aug 1829)
1830 - The household of Richard Gardener was in Salina, Onondaga, New York. It contains four adults and three boys and a girl, so it's likely to be two families sharing a house. In 1830, Elizabeth's children from her first marriage were Adeline (4), Catherine (9), Elizabeth (11), James (12), Joseph (14), Sarah (17), and Mary Ann (19). These do not match the household members listed below, so the census is likely to have been taken before Elizabeth and Richard married.
1840 - The household of Richd Gordenier was in Ward 3 of Rochester, Monroe County, NY.[1]The household probably consists of Richard, his wife Elizabeth, and their son and two daughters.
By 1840, Elizabeth's children from her first marriage were adults. Catherine (19) and Lib (21) were unmarried, and one of them may have been in the Gordinier household.
1850 - The Gordineer family was in Ridgeway, Orleans County, NY.[2]
Also in Ridgeway were her son's family (Joseph, Margaret, and their five children) and her daughter. Her daughter Sarah is in nearby Shelby with her husband and children.[3]
1855 - The Gordinier family was in Ridgeway, NY.[4]
In 1860, the Smith family lived in Ridgeway, Orleans County, NY.[5] Everyone is described as Mulatto.
In 1870, the Jeffreys are in Hart, Winona, Minnesota.[6]
in 1875, Elizabeth is in Winona MN. Her granddaughter Zorah Jeffrey is listed on the same page.[7]
In 1880, Elizabeth is in Winona MN, living with her granddaughter Zorah's family. All are described as Black.[8]
Elizabeth died on 19 Feb 1882.[9]
