Joseph Newton Fox & Jane Wison-Fox are buried in Fox Cemetery in Perry Township, about 3 miles NW of Mount Morris, PA.
He was a private in the 11th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Army serving 6 years during the Revolutionary War and has a listing with the Sons of the American Revolution, Pennsylvania Society, Fort Jackson Chapter. Another source listed him as serving with Capt. Thomas Robinson's Rangers. He fought in the Battle of Brandywine, Germantown, Monmouth, and Stony Point, spending the terrible winter of 1777-1778 at Valley Forge, PA.[1]
He settled in Perry Township of Green County, PA and patented land there in January 15, 1814. For DAR or SAR membership his Rev. War pension # is W7292, US Revolutionary War Service, War Dept. Collection of Rev. War Records (Record group 93), National Archives & Records Administration, Washington D.C.
In his book Joseph Fox, His Descendants and Related Families, Charles S Fox provides letters and first hand accounts from various family members indicating their beliefs that our Fox line is of English ancestry....red-haired Foxes vs black-haired, cousins didn't marry (HA!) and the fact that the ships they came on sailed from England, etc. The only "factual" evidence is the letter from the US Government concerning the Rev War Pension for Elizabeth Fox Myers who supposedly referenced the names Isaac & Rebecca Fox at the end of her application. Those documents are from the National Archives and there is no such reference on her documents, only on the letter from the government..
A researcher has searched for census, land, wills, church records, marriage documents for Isaac Fox born 1723 & Rebecca born 1725 in PA, VA, MD, NJ..and found NO evidence they ever existed..
