Ellen Fox was born in 1867 at Souldern in Oxfordshire. She was the daughter of Matthew Fox and his wife Elizabeth, born Elizabeth Castle. ^{[1] [2]}

1871 census: Ellen Fox was living at Souldern in Oxfordshire with her parents, Matthew and Elizabeth, their other daughter, and her grandfather William Fox. Her age was given as 3, implying a birth date in 1867 or 1868. Her birthplace was given as Souldern, Oxfordshire. She was at school. ^[2]

1881 census: Ellen was living in Back Lane [now Albion Street] in Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire with her parents and their other children. Her age was given as 13, implying a birth date in 1867 or 1868. Her birthplace was given as Souldern, Oxfordshire. She was a general servant. ^[3]

1911 census: Ellen Fox was living at 1 Albion Place in Chipping Norton with her widowed father Matthew. Her age was given as 42, implying a birth date in 1868 or 1869. Her birthplace was given as Souldern, Oxfordshire. She was a housekeeper. ^[4]

Research Notes

Originally connected to parents Thomas Rouse Fox (bef.1834-1905) and Ann Maria (Smith) Fox (1833-1898).

But:...

There is no Ellen Fox born 1866-1870 in Bicester registration district with mother's maiden name "Smith".

Ellen does not seem to be the daughter of Thomas Fox.

In the 1871 census, her family was enumerated just after, and presumably lived near, the family of Thomas Rouse Fox. (That household is listed in profile Fox-6736.) ^[2]

Thomas and Matthew might be brothers.
