Gentleman, Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer and Auctioneer, of Huntingdon, Huntingdonshire.
"Praises on Tombs are Trifles Vainly Spent - A Man's Good Name is His Best Monument." John Fox Monument, St Mary & St Benedict's Church, Huntingdon.
He was the son of John Fox II and Elizabeth Thornett, of St Ives, Huntingdonshire. He was born on 20 November 1748.
He married 1ly in 1778 Charlotte Negus, daughter of George Negus and Elizabeth Bowker, of St Neots, Cambridgeshire, with issue nine sons and one daughter. She died after childbirth in 1790.
He married 2ly in 1792 Frances Maples, daughter of Gervase Maples and Susannah Wilson Ghest, of Navenby, Lincolnshire, with issue five daughters and three sons.
In 1786 he was mentioned in the Will of Mary Bowker née Dixon (died 1797), Proved 8 April 1797, as husband of Charlotte Fox and father of George Fox. His wife Charlotte and son George had both died prior to 1797. Legacies to be paid out of Mary Bowker's personal Estate, comprised of:
"£20 to Mary Andrews (wife of John Andrews and daughter of Burgess Bowker of Alconbury Weston, Hunts);
"£10 to Mary Andrews (daughter of John and Mary Andrews);
"£10 each to George Negus of Kings St, Bloomsbury, Coachmaker;
"Elizabeth Ladds (wife of Thomas Ladds of St Neots, Hunts, Cabinet Maker);
"Charlotte Fox (wife of John Fox of Huntingdon, Cabinet Maker);
"and Mary Negus of St Neots, Spinster", (all sons and daughters of George and Elizabeth Negus of St Neots, deceased);
"£10 each to Mary Ladds (daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Ladds);
"and George Fox (son of John and Charlotte Fox."
He died suddenly on 17 January 1817 whilst on a visit to Shefford, Bedfordshire, "in a fit", aged 68. His remains were removed to Huntingdon where he was buried on 23 January 1817 in a Vault in St Mary & St Benedict's Churchyard. His widow died in 1845 and was buried with him.
