Biography

Farmer's wife, shareholder of War Stock, in the European Gas Company Ltd and in Ruston and Hornsby Ltd, of 63 Dixon Street, formerly of 24 Sewells Walk, Lincoln.

Background

She was the daughter of Harriet Collis and George Maples Fox, ironmonger of Lincoln. She was baptised on 31 May 1857 at St Peter at Arches and St Benedict's Church, Lincoln.[1]

Marriage and family

On 6 June 1877 she married Frederick Henry Marfleet, with issue six children. Witnesses to their marriage were her father, George Maples Fox, and her sister, Alice Elizabeth Fox.

1881 British Census

In the 1881 British Census she was visiting her mother's household in Upper Lindum Road, Lincoln, in the Parish of St Margaret, presumably on account of her baby son, Charles. Her mother, Harriet Fox (age 54), with her daughter, Fanny Cotton Marfleet (24), farmer's wife, and grandson, Charles S Marfleet (4 months).

Later years

In later years she lived with her unmarried cousin, Emily A Salman, at 63 Dixon Street, Lincoln.

Will

In her Will (dated 5 February 1924) she named four surviving children: Charles Sidney Marfleet, Edith Harriet Reeve, Jessie Annie Merrett and Mary Ethel Marfleet. Her cousin, Emily A Salman was Witness.

Death

She died on 21 August 1927, aged 70.

Probate

Probate was granted on 12 October 1927 to her son, Charles Sidney Marfleet, opthalmic optician, and her nephew, Cecil Bernard Hall, civil engineer. Effects valued at £732 11s.
