Biography

Research suggests that this person may never have existed. See the text for details.

Through legend... she has a couple of fathers from the British Isles, and gets tied to the Franks. Sometimes she's married to a mythical Genebaud, or a Marcomir IV (c. 100s) ... probably based on the Frankish commander Marcomer, who lived 388 AD ... during the time of Cdr. Sunno. Also see Coel Hen

The parents listed for this individual are speculative and may not be based on sound genealogical research. Sources to prove or disprove this ancestry are needed. Please contact the Profile Manager or leave information on the bulletin board. : Her parents are fictional, and so are alleged husbands, Genobaud,[1] and Odimir (fictitious son of Marcomer, living 388AD).

Notes

  • Athildis des Sicambrian[2] Birth: 268[3] Death: 300[4]
  • Athildiis of Britain seems to be mythological -- invented to give the Frankish kings a descent from the Caesars.

See this brief commentary, and the pedigree of this fictional line, that continues up the generations, for quite some time. Apparently it tries to build a case on psuedo-conjecture, by using a combination of Biblical and other ancient texts.[5] To understand where the tree is going ... Griswald (2004), explains that:

"What is surprising is the number of different threads that exist from Abraham into Western Europe and the different paths they take. Several different threads are intertwined in the Merovingian families of Francia. Two pass from Egypt through Ireland into either Wales or Scotland. A third line comes directly from the Exilarchs (the leaders of the Jewish community in exile after the Diaspora) in Babylon. This thread goes directly into what is now southern France, where descendants married into the noble families of the region. "

For the curious... the tree technically terminates with the Biblical Abraham and Sarah, at the top; and Clovis I at the bottom.[6]

Also note that the "Liber Historiæ Francorum," is not a reliable primary source, and contains mythology.

Relationships between historical figures could have been simplified or even fabricated to give the impression that succession remained within the same family…. Chronology in the Sagas is unlikely to be correct and relationships should be treated with considerable caution. (see reference[7])

Ferch Coel-2 and Coilus-3 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same person and since she is fictional, they might as well be merged.
No. She's not real either... but she seems to get tied to Frankish field commanders of the Roman empire (Marcomer, or Genobaud), who were given false pedigrees during the 1400s by a pope... While those men probably did exist, there's no primary source to verify that, and their relatives are UNKNOWN. We know of their names through Sulpicious, who was cited by Gregory of Tours well after the fact.

Ferch Coel-2 and Coilus-3 are not ready to be merged because: are they real?

Neither are correct by the Wikitree naming guide - one of the profiles should be changed to Cole or Britain to remove the prepositions from the LNAB. de/le/of verch/ferch map/ab/ap are not considered the actual last name.
Verch Cole De Britain-1 and De Britain-1 are not ready to be merged because: which is correct name?

Removing Kaercolvin-1 (b. 218) & Cambria-5 (b. 225) as parents of De_Britain-6 (husband b. 354)
DeBritain-11 and De Britain-6 appear to represent the same person because: merge pending for spouse
