"[John] was elected deacon [German Baptist Brethren] in 1827; to the ministry in 1833; ordained in 1847. At the death of Elder Ebersole in 1850 he was given charge of the [G.B.B. in Ohio]. He served as bishop until 1877 when, by reason of age and lack of English, he resigned. ... Like his uncle Christian [Frantz], he was a typical pioneer preacher. He traveled much on horseback. Besides his duties in Ohio, he had the oversight of churches in Indiana." ("History of the Church" 1921, pp 451-452)
When he was eighty-four, John died of unknown causes, on 25 August 1886 in Clark County, Ohio.

Children: Anna- 1822, Suffiah- 1823, Elizabeth-1824, Catherine-1827, Jacob-1828, Salome(Sally)-1830, John-1833, Samuel-1836, Nicholas-1838, Barbara-1841, Hester-1844, Noah-1847, Phoebe Ann-1849. John was a traveling pioneer preacher of churches in Indiana and Ohio. John and Anna are buried in the Funderburg Cemetery near New Carlisle, OH."
