Benjamin was born in 1812. He was the son of James Fraser and Rachel DeWolf. He passed away in 1888. Note as to middle name: Benjamin's middle name is found in the records as Dewolf, or with D. W., or with a space between the e and capital W, as in De Wolf. It is not found as DeWolf in the records.
He married Elizabeth Allison in 1843 at Hants, Nova Scotia. At the time he married her, he was a widower. [1] He was a well-thought of person in Halifax. According to his brief profile in the 'History of Nova Scotia', there is a monument to him in the cemetery at Windsor. [2] It also indicates that he was married three time.
"First to Harriet Fraser, daughter of Dr. Alexander Fraser, of London, G. B., who died at Windsor without issue. Second to Elizabeth Coster, daughter of R. I. Coster, Esq., M. D.. Devonshire, G. B., who died in Windsor without issue. Third to Elizabeth, daughter of Hon. Joseph Allison, of Halifax, N. S., and Ann. his wife. Issue, seven sons and seven daughters." [2]

Benjamin DeWolf Fraser MD (4 Mar 1812-4 Jul 1888) = 1. Harriet Fraser n.i. = 2. Elizabeth Coster n.i. 3. = in Halifax NS-20 Sep 1843 Elizabeth Allison (25 Jan1826-25 Mar 1876) He was born in 1812 in Halifax Nova Scotia. He was educated at King's Collegiate School & King's College Windsor NS, the first nonconformist admitted without subscribing to the 39 articles of the Church of England. He studied preliminary medicine under Dr. William Almon, Halifax NS. He graduated 1833/34 from Edinburgh University, Scotland. While a medical student became a freemason in Cannongate Kilwinning Lodge, No. 2, St. Johns Chapel. He was also a Royal Arch Mason and a Knight Templar and a member of Welsford Lodge, Windsor NS. In 1834 graduated from Heidelberg University Germany studying medicine & surgery. By 1843 a Major with Hants Co militia 1st Batt. In 1861 principal owner of the sailing vessel Lady Milne 562 tons [citation needed]. He was still on the rolls after his death c1895. In 1864 he was the Capt. of the Windsor Volunteer Rifles. By 1864-1871 an officer with the NS Bd of Health officer for Hants Co. Wikitree claims date of birth for daughter Rena Almon Fraser as 26 Sep 1866. By 1867-c1882 director Avon Bridge Co, Windsor, Pres (1871) (1880-1882). By 1867-1882 director of the Commercial Bank of Windsor NS. By 1868 President of the Hants Co Rifle Association. By 1868 he was the surgeon in the local militia unit. An honourary surgeon with the 78th Highlanders by 1882. He was a Justice of the Peace for Hants Co (~1868-1882). By 1870-1871 President/Director-Windsor Gas Co. In 1873 a petitioner for the incorporation of the Windsor Fire Insurance Co. In 1874 a petitioner for the incorporation of the Windsor Gas Light Co. In 1875 Morning Chronicle newspaper- under-signed as a shareholder a petition for incorporation as Morning Herald Printing & Publishing Co. His home in Windsor, Gerrish Hall, was noted for its hospitality.[7]
Benjamin DeWolf Fraser was married for the third time to Elizabeth Allison, in 1843 in Hants County NS.[8]He died in Windsor NS in 1888 and was buried in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, Hants Co, Nova Scotia, Canada[9]
