He married Catherine Isabella MacLean, eldest daughter Allan MacLean, a tacksman at Crossopol, in 1814 in Crossapol, Isle of Coll, Argyllshire, Scotland. That same year his mother Isabella passed away, age 51.
Rev. Donald and Catherine had 11 children during their marriage. Donald, son of a Minister of the Church of Scotland, also joined the Ministry. He was educated at the Royal High School in Edinburgh, and his studies to enter the Ministry began at the age of 13 when he was enrolled at the University of Edinburgh. Donald was ordained in 1814.
In 1817 he learned of Scottish people in Nova Scotia who had no Minister and were petitioning for a Gaelic speaking Minister. Donald and Catherine travelled to Pictou County, Nova Scotia where he became the Minister of the first Presbyterian congregation.
He bought 100 acres of land and farmed his property 'Torosay' at McLellan's Mountain. In 1837 Donald moved to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and later to St John's, Newfoundland in 1841 where he founded St. Andrews Church. Donald made a lasting impression on his congregations.
Rev. Donald Allen Fraser died in 1845 age 52. A memorial plaque was erected at St. Andrew's Church.
