Biography

Margaret (Fraser) Fraser Lady Marischal is a member of Clan Fraser.

Birth and Marriage

Margaret Fraser was born to Sir John Fraser, Laird of Aberbothnot and an unknown mother.^[1][2]

She married Sir William Keith^[2] (on or before 3 May 1351),^[3] son of Sir Edward Keith, Great Marischal and Isabella Sinton.^[4][5][6] Subtracting a generational span of 25 years from the projected 1351 marriage date, Margaret's d.o.b. would have been circa 1326. It seems likely that she was born before this date, however, as daughter Christiana had a "dispensation to marry John, son of John Hay of Tullibody, 1 March 1363" ^[7] It seems that this was Christiana's first marriage. If Christiana was 25 at her dispensation, she would have been born circa 1338. It is highly unlikely that Margaret would have been 12 years old at Christiana's birth, so it seems Cokayne's "or before" statement is the most accurate. Subtracting 25 years from Christiana's circa 1338 d.o.b, would place Margaret's estimated date of birth around 1313.

Issue

Margaret and William had the following issue:^[8][9][10]

1. John, who married Jean, the youngest daughter of Robert II and Elizabeth Mure, and d. 18 March 1375^[11][12].
2. Sir Robert, who succeeded Edward.
3. Sir Alexander, who married Marjorie Stewart, widow of John Dunbar, Earl of Moray.
4. Muriella, who married Robert, Duke of Albany, Regent of Scotland, and died c. 1 June 1449.^[13][14]
5. Janet, who married Philip de Arbuthnott.
6. Margaret, who married Sir James de Lindsay of Crawford.
7. Elizabeth, who married first Sir Adam Gordon of Huntly, secondly, Sir Nicholas Erskine of Kinnoull, and thirdly, Thomas Somerville of Carnwath.
8. Christiana's, who had dispensation on 1 March 1363 to marry John,^[7] son of John Hay of Tullibody, and secondly to Sir William Lindsay of the Byres.

Death

Margaret's date of death and location of her burial are unknown.
