William was born on 15 June 1822, and baptized on 20 June 1822 in Rhynie and Essie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and was the son of William Fraser and Margaret Taylor.[1][2]He passed away on 5 Aug 1890 in Keith, Banffshire, Scotland.[3]
He married Isobel Collie on 30 November 1845 in Rhynie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and together they had eleven known children.[4]

In 1851, William and Isobel were living on Honeybard in the civil parish of Kildrummy, Aberdeenshire. Their small family included their sons James and William and their daughter Isobel.[10]By 1861, the family had relocated to 85 Lumsden in the civil parish of Auchindoir and William was working as a Free Stone Quarrier. Their family now consisted of five children, Alex, Jane, George, Gordon, and Isobel.[11]
William was working as a Sand Stone Quarrier and the family had moved to No 4 Broom in the civil parish of Rhynie by 1871. The family consisted of William, his wife Isabella, and four children, Gordon, Ann, Robert, and Andrew.[12] By 1881, the family had moved to No 174 Mid Street in the civil parish of Keith, Banffshire, and William was working as a Labourer. His household included his wife, Isobel, three of their children, Gordon, Ann, and Andrew, as well as his grandson Alexander Shand.[13]

Sons James (aged 14) and William (aged 12) were servants in the household of James Spence in Gartly, Aberdeenshire, at the time of the 1861 Scotland Census.
Son George would've been 13-years-old at the time of the 1871 census, so he was either residing with someone else or had died before that time.
Daughter Jane would've been 15-years-old at the time of the 1871 census, so she was either residing with someone else or had died before that time.
