Biography

born Mull, 1647, son of educated at Univ. of Glasgow; M.A. (July 1667); pres. and coll. by Bishop Andrew Knox 1st Dec and inst. April 1678. He did not conform to Presbyterianism at the Revolution, but continued to occupy the charge till 26th Oct. 1697 when it was declared vacant. Even after that date he remained in the parish preaching and discharging ministerial duties and subsisting on the charity and benevolence of the parishioners. He is said to have won twenty-four families in Coll to Protestantism. He was a learned and good man, very beneficial to his parishioners on account of his wise and winning disposition, understanding well their character and habits. He died 25th Aug. 1702. He marr. 4th March 1677, Mary, daugh. of Mathias Symson, min. of Stirling, and had issue several sons and daughs.
