Hugh was the son of Thomas Fraser and Janet Gordon.[1]

He married Anna daughter of John Grant of Freuchie.[2]

Anna died before 1536 and on 19 Jul, he married , secondly, Janet Ross.[2]

He had issue:

  1. Simon, Master of Lovat, killed in the battle of Loch Lochy with his father, d. unm.[3]
  2. Alexander, who succeeded.[3]
  3. William of Stury, b. c. 1737[3]
  4. Hugh, b. c. 1539[3]
  5. Agnes, m. bef. 3 Mar 1540-41 to William Macleod, younger of Dunvegan. m. 2nd Alexander Bain of Tulloch.[3]
  6. Margaret[3]


Hugh Fraser passed away in 1544 at the Battle of the Shirts, known in Gaelic as Blàr na Léine, also the Battle of Kinloch-Lochy).

Research Notes

It should be noted that MacKenzie, (1896) refers to Hugh as the Fifth Lord Fraser. With the repetition of names and the variance of titles it is easy to mix up this line.[4]
The middle name Uidsdean was attached but none of the sources reviewed mention this name.
