Biography

Amelia Fraser was born about 1778 or 1768 in Bedford, Pennsylvania to John Fraser and Jane (Bell) Fraser. [1]

Her mother, Jane was removed as administrator of her father's will on complaint by her children, Margaret, Benjamin and William, who were all over the age of 14 years. They complained that she had not made a full account of John's estate that had been in her hands and that she was likely insolvent.[2] They also asked that they be allowed to choose their own guardians and they all chose Barnard Dougherty, James Piper, and David Espy.[2] Jane had to pay a 200 pound bond to ensure that the rest of the estate was paid over to two sureties that were appointed on behalf of all of the children: Benjamin, Margaret, William, James, Jane, Catherine, Mary, and Amelia.[2]
