Biography

Benjamin was born about 1758 in Oldtown, Allegany, Maryland and died at the age of 22-23 on 3 Jul 1781in Frankstown, Blair County, Pennsylvania. [1]

His mother, Jane was removed as administrator of his father's will on complaint by her children, Margaret, Benjamin and William, who were all over the age of 14 years. They complained that she had not made a full account of John's estate that had been in her hands and that she was likely insolvent.[2] They also asked that they be allowed to choose their own guardians and they all chose Barnard Dougherty, James Piper, and David Espy.[2] Jane had to pay a 200 pound bond to ensure that the rest of the estate was paid over to two sureties that were appointed on behalf of all of the children: Benjamin, Margaret, William, James, Jane, Catherine, Mary, and Amelia.[2]
