David was born in 1779 in Bladensburg, Maryland [1], where his parents arrived from Scotland as indentures servants.
When he was seven years old, his parents moved the family to Washington Co., Pennsylvania, where he lived the remainder of his life.[2]
He married Jane Ross of Finley township. They had seven children, - Thomas, Margaret, Jane, Andrew B., Christiana, William and Alfred.[3]
