Jeremiah's grandfather Isaac FREELAND (Sr.) served in the Continental Army under General George Washington, including the Winter of 1777 in Valley Forge with Sergeant Howell ELDRIDGE for whom he later named a son. Isaac FREELAND (Sr.) also served in the War of 1812. In Forsyth County, Georgia, Jeremiah's father Isaac Freeland (Jr.) was drinking with a group of men one night when a man from South Carolina rode by on his horse at which time Isaac cursed at him. The next morning that man was found death. At the age of 52, leaving a wife and 15 children, Isaac FREELAND, Jr. was the first person hanged in Fosyth County, Georgia, accused of murder though the evidence against him was sketchy. Jeremiah was born in 1839. He passed away in 1864.
