The family records of Thomas Freeman, our great grandfather, do not give the names of his parents. The only information we have is that which has been passed down from generation to generation which states his father was Samuel Freeman a Revolutionary soldier who was wounded in the battle of Savannah. We do not know his wife's name. They had four sons, Thomas, John, Joseph, and William, and two daughters, Patty who married Holman Griffin, and Sally who married Wiley Maughon.
Catherine Freeman died March 28th 1823. On July 17, 1823 Thomas married Eloisa Fouche daughter of George and Susannah Fouche, the neighbors who cared for his children after their mother's death and twelve children were born to them.
The Freeman family left Wilkes County in the mid-1830's and after living a few years in Upson County, GA. and Barbour County Al. , they settled in Talbot County, GA on a farm in Redbone District which he bought in 1842 and on which he lived the remainder of his life. Several of his sons settled in Talbot County near him, and his youngest son, Stinson (Grandpa to us) inherited the family home and reared his three sons and five daughters there. It is still owned by members of the family, and today (1970) there are many of Thomas Freeman's descendants in the county
