Joseph was born in 1875, son of Edmund Freeman and Emily Buckland.^{[1] [2]}

In 1896, Joseph was admitted to the Dreadnought Seamen's Hospital .^[3]

Joseph married Mary Carter in 1898.^[4]

In 1911, Joseph (a plasterer) and Mary were living in Maidstone with their four children (Joseph, Edmund, Emily and Lilly).^[5] They also immigrated to the United States of America.^[6]

In 1915, Joseph and Mary were living in Rochester with their children (Joseph, Edward, Emily, Lilly and Alfred).^[7]

In 1920, Joseph (a Contractor) and Mary were living in Rochester with their children (Joseph, Edward, and Emily).^[8]

Mary passed away in 1923.^[9]
