Edmund Freeman was the son of Edmund Freeman and Kezia Presbury, born in 1711[1]. He was a graduate of Harvard, class of 1736, and became a deacon. He married Martha Otis and they had a large family. The first were born in Sandwich or Harwich, Massachusetts and the latter ones were born in Mansfield, Tolland Co., Connecticut.

Their children were:

  3. Nathaniel.
  4. Abigail, w. Aaron Hovey.
  5. Jonathan, h. Sarah Huntingdon.
  6. Otis, h. Ruth B. Richardson.

  8. Moody, h. Kezia Freeman.
  9. Frederick, h. Abigail Thompson.
  10. Martha, w. Roger Hovey.

Edmund served during the American Revolution with Patriotic Service as a Member of Committee of Correspondence, a Town Moderator, and a Member of General Assembly.[2]

Salem Gazette (Salem, MA), March 14, 1800, p. 3: DIED--At Mannsfield [sic], Conn. Deacon Edmund Freeman, aged 88. He was educated at Cambridge, and graduated in 1733.

Massachusetts Mercury (Boston, MA), March 28, 1800, p. 3: Died, At Mansfield, in Connecticut, deacon Edmund Freeman, A. M. in the 89th year of his age. He graduated at Harvard University, 1733, was many years a member of the Legislature in that Sate, was much respected, and although he lived to a great age, he retained his intellectual faculties to the last moment, when he closed the scene of a well spent life without a groan or struggle, and greatly lamented. He hath left, except one who died in infancy, all his children, nine in number, to survive him.

Inscription:

In Memory of Deacon Edmund Freeman who died Feb 11th 1800, in the 89th year of his age. The memory of the just is blessed. A graduate of Harvard Collage 1733. (back of stone) Erected in 1881 by Charles Storrs in memory of his mothers grandfather.

Burial: Old Storrs Cemetery, Storrs, Tolland County, Connecticut.[3]
