Godfrey Collins, who was a descendant of Hiram who was one of Finley's sons, did research and believed that Finley's father Andrew was a son of John Collins who was a son of Benjamin Collins. In the early 1780s, Benjamin and John were in Washington County, PA. John moved to KY by 1800 and he and the Finley and Bolin families are on Garrard County tax lists. John was then in tax lists and the 1810 census in Hardin County, KY. The Finley and Bolin families had also moved to Hardin County. Andrew Collins is on an 1815 tax list in Perry County, IN and served on the first grand jury in the county on 3 July 1815. The belief is that Andrew married one of David Finley's daughters. That could explain Finley's name. The Finleys and Bolins also ended up in southern Indiana and there were subsequent marriages between Bolins and Collinses. If that Andrew Collins was Finley's father, then Elizabeth Freeman Collins could not be his mother. Have not found anything to definitively determine which Andrew Collins it was - the one in Hardin Co., KY in 1810 or the one in Culpeper, VA in 1810. If one knew when, where and name of wife previous to Ellender Faith died, that would solve the question but that information has not been located.
