Biography

Barnabas was born in January 21, 1738[1] [2], the son of Elisha Freeman and Lydia Freeman of Rochester, Plymouth, Massachusetts[3] [4] [5] .

Barnabas emigrated to Liverpool, Nova Scotia circa 1759. He was a carpenter, sawmill operator and lumberman at Liverpool, and lived at the Falls (now Milton). He is mentioned several times in Simeon Perkins Diary[2], and is found on both the 1759 survey of Liverpool and the 1764 grant.[6] [2]. He appears in the 1787[7] and 1791[8]Census.

On December 16, 1761, he married Thankful Dennis, the daughter of Abraham Dennis and Mary Ellis. The marriage is recorded in both Massachusetts and Liverpool.[9] [10] [11] [3] [5] [2], and their children included:

  1. Susanna, Dec. 18, 1761, in Roch. ; m. Sylvanus Morton[3]
  2. Eunice, March 22, 1764, in Liv.; m. Robert Harlow[3]
  3. Dennis, July 8, 1766 ; m. Mercy Gorham[3]
  4. Thankful, Nov. 8, 1768; m. John Miles, and d. 1852, ae. 84[3]

On Sept. 4, 1771, Barnabas married Lydia (Deane) Annis, the widow of Thomas Annis[3] [5] [2]. There were no children.

On May 15, 1774, he married Martha (Tupper) Stewart, the widow of Howe Stewart[3] [5] [2]. There were no children.

He died March 20, 1808[2]
