Biography

Isaac "IKE" Freeman^[1] was born in 1815 in Rutherford, North Carolina, the child of Rob Freeman and Catherine Seward. He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Harper in 1837. He died after 1880 Census in Henderson, North Carolina.

Isaac Freeman made a living on a small farm on Little Pisgah Mountain in Henderson County, North Carolina, not far from where he and Betsy were reared. He lived alone there after Betsy left him. (The Ones Who Came Before Vol II, Frances Freeman Honeycutt) He was a farmer and gunsmith like his father. At one time, he was a candidate for the legislature for this section. Henderson County Divorce Records: "Freeman, Elizabeth vs. Freeman, Isaac R. 1867. They were married for 30 years, and had several^{[2] [3][4]}children. In Buncombe Co. he took up with Sally Dotson." Information from The Genealogical Society of Old Tryon county; Rutherford County, North Carolina Guardian Docket; April 1834; Notice for settlement, Report the estate of Isaac R. Freeman, Felix M. Freeman & Plinney Trasper Freeman, orphans of Robinson Freeman deed, in the hands of Catherine Freeman their guardian is .50 or .50 cents to each and interest thereon from the 10th September 1831. Catherine (her X mark) Freeman guardian. October 1834; Catherine Freeman guardian to Isaac R. Freeman, Felix M. Freeman & Plinney P. Freeman orphans of Robinson Freeman deed, renewed her guardian bond to the State of North Carolina in £100 with Dobson Freeman & Terrell Freeman for security. Present John Logan, Richard Harrill & Joseph Taylor Esquire on the April 1835; Legacies in my possession this 26th of April 1935. Isaac R. Freeman .04, Felix M. Freeman .04, Plinney T. Freeman .04. Katherine Freeman April 1836 Catherine Freeman guardian for her children, Isaac R., Felix and Plenney T. Freeman to amount of 4.84¼ principle & interest still at interest. May Term 1836 Catherine Freeman. Spring 1837 Catherine Freeman as guardian for Isaac R. Freeman, Felix M. Freeman & Plenney T. freeman returns as follows. In my hands as follows Issac R. Freeman, .02; Felix M. Freeman .02; and Plenney T. Freeman .02. Total 7.06. But Isaac having arrived to the age of 21 years I have settled with him. Catherine Freeman.
