David Freeman served in the United States Civil War. Enlisted: Jul 12, 1862 Mustered out: Apr 9, 1865 Side: CSA Regiment(s): Company 'D' 48th Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry
David Freeman enlisted along with his brother into a Burke County unit on July 12, 1862. The unit was transferred to the Army of Northern Virginia and immediately saw action. David dutifully soldiered on through all the vicissitudes of war, until the surrender at Appomatox Courthouse on April 9, 1865.
David returned to Screven County after the war and began farming. He never married. In his later years he lived in the home of his nephew William H. Odom. He died in 1919.
