Biography

Margaret Miller Freeman was born September 12, 1875, the daughter of Joseph Bent Freeman and Mary Eliza Dexter of Liverpool, NS[1] [2] [3] (Note: Her birth record gives her parents marriage information:18 June 1856 in Milton NS)

On September 21, 1897, she married Rev. William Laird Archibald, son of Eliakim Archibald and Cynthia Bradshaw[4], and they had children, including[5] [6] [7]:

  1. Francis Magoun Archibald, born in 1899[8][5] [6]
  2. Helen Bradshaw Archibald, born in 1902[9] [6] [7]
  3. Harold Freeman Archibald, born in 1906[10] [6]
  4. Jeanne Margaret Archibald, born in 1913[11] [7]

They lived in Milton and Lawrencetown, and settled in Wolfville in 1904 when William took a job at Acadia University. After William retired in June 1939, they got in a car and drove west, in the days before there were highway routes crossing the continent. His notes[12] indicate they visited friends and former students in Ottawa, North Bay, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, Astoria, Oregon, Palo Alto CA, San Francisco World's Fair, Oakland CA, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Whittier, Long Beach, Redlands, Santa Ana, Tijuana Mexico, High Bank CA, Phoenix AZ, Grand Canyon, New Orleans, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham AL, Atlanta, Elizabeth NJ, and the World's Fair in New York. Then they settled in Florida for their retirement years.

Margaret Miller (Freeman) Archibald died March 20, 1966[13], and is buried in the Shady Rest Cemetery in Holly Hill Florida[14]
