Rick, could you provide the evidence please? Perhaps put it in a FSP. We need to be able to review what is behind the paywall. At present they look like different men.
Thanks, Jo England Project Managed Profiles team coordinator.
There is a substantial amount of information in the article cited, and I did not go through it. There was a father and son, both named William French. The father married Elizabeth Newes and the son married Elizabeth (possibly Symes). John French, the immigrant is the son of William French and Elizabeth Newes.
So, I think there is more of a problem than just a simple merge.
The issue with the article is that it is locked away. Unless you have the expensive subscription to NEHGS, you can't access it. So the evidence needs to go where it can be seen by everyone.
French-2080 and French-1789 do not represent the same person because: They appear to be two different men with different wives and born in different counties. Please add any relevant sourced primary evidence to the profiles as research notes.
Jo: You are correct. These are two different men. Two competing theories on the parents of the two immigrant French brothers. I have a copy of the article that I'm happy to share with anyone who needs it (just PM me). I've been looking for someone to summarize the research, but as of yet no volunteers.

I don't know what you mean by FSP.
