Biography

Ruby Velma Brown, 97, of Dillon, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, in Parkview Acres.

She was born July 15, 1910, to George and Lizzie French in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., the oldest girl in a family of nine children. Being a descendent of the Orr family, they moved from Tennessee to the Jake Place, up Blacktail at the P.&O. Ranch, when she was 11 years old. They moved to Dillon a few years later for school.

Ruby married Claude H. Brown Jan. 16, 1930. She was a homemaker and mother to three children, living in Dillon most of her life.

She was a professional baker and salad maker working for Saga Foods at the college, which she retired from while in her 70s. Her enjoyment came from volunteering for "Gods Kitchen" making soup and being an active member of Grace Methodist Church until entering the nursing home five years ago.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers; and son-in-law, Joe Turner.

Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Stuart, Casa Grande, Ariz., Janet Turner, Hamilton, Jim C. Brown (Patsy) Carson City, Nev.; brothers, Luther (Jean) French, Kalispell, Harry (Margaret) French, Plains; sisters, Nora Jean Simmons, Thayne, Wyo., Edna Coppock and Amy Cunningham, Omak, Wash.; six grand-children; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, in Brundage Funeral Home, Dillon, with visitation prior to the services from 9 to 11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 131 E. Bannack St., Dillon.
