Biography

Silas was a farmer in Hollis, New Hampshire.
Silas (or Silus) was born in Billerica, Massachusetts on 12 October 1762.[1][2][3] He would later become the first of this line to move to Hollis, New Hampshire,[4] where he established a farm, married, and raised a large family.[5]
Marriage & Family:
When he was 34, Silas, (Sr,), married Sarah, (Sally), Reed on March 4, 1796, in the township of Hollis, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.[6] Sarah died on 24 August 1838. Their marriage lasted forty-two years.
Silas and Sarah were the parents of eleven children:
  1. Freedom French (1796-1866)
  2. Silas French (1799-1877)​​, who married Esther Saunderson in 1835 and had two daughters.
  3. Alvah French (1800-1870)], who moved to Guilderland, Albany, New York, and died unmarried there.
  4. Alpheus French (1802-1830)
  5. Sarah Reed (French) Ball (1805-1867), who married Abel Ball in 1823, and remained in Hollis.
  6. Samuel French (1807-1833)
  7. Priscilla P (French) Read (1809-1887), who married Asa Reed on 7 Apr 1829 and later moved to Manchester, New Hampshire.
  8. Lucy Goodwin (French) Gregg (1812-1897), who married Joseph Gregg in 1835 and later moved to Manchester, New Hampshire.
  9. Hannah Reed (French) Kellogg (1815-1891), who married the Reverend Erastus M Kellogg in 1841 and moved to different church homes throughout New England.
  10. Maria French (1817-1879), who moved to Manchester, New Hampshire.
  11. William Reed French (1820-1889)​​, who trained to be a cooper, moved to Enfiled, Connecticut. He married Mary V. Johnson there in 1847.[5]
Death & Burial
Silas died in Hollis, New Hampshire on 12 April 1843[7][8] and was buried in the Congregational Church Cemetery, in Hollis, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.[9]
