Biography

FRENCH, John Kevin February 23, 1925 - October 21, 2004 Born in St. John's, Newfoundland to Douglas French and Mary Brownrig, passed away suddenly at his home in Edmonton, Alberta. Survived by his loving wife, Pearl; and his children and their spouses, Kevin (Sylvia), Mary (Ron), Melonie, Maureen (Dave); stepchildren, Shelly (Mike), Ted, Kerry, Tally (Kelly); and grandchildren, Jonathon, Michael, Michael (Jana), Tirzah (Darren), Matthew, Jason, Trevor (Terra), Jake; step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Kenya, Kelsey, Sara; great-grandchildren, Logan, McKinley, Alexandrea, Nicole, Taylor; siblings, Kay, Caroline, Douglas, Edward and Harry. Predeceased by spouse Dorothy and granddaughter Tamara, and by his brother Patrick and sisters Nellie and Elizabeth (Biz). John left home at the age of 16 and joined the Newfoundland Ferry Command which supported the RAF from Gander, Newfoundland where he assisted the war effort (WWII) by repairing aircraft and delivering them to international locations including North Africa, Greece, France and Scotland. After the war, he left Newfoundland to travel around the world. His first stop was Montreal, Quebec. Second was Toronto where he married Dorothy, raised his family and established a career in the automotive industry. After retirement in 1987, John and Dorothy moved their residence to Edmonton, Alberta following his two daughters, where they remained until Dorothy's death in 1997. In 1998, John met Pearl and they married in May 1999. They spent their free time travelling, visiting family and attending the Shangrila Seniors Club where John remained President. John and Pearl are the lucky ones to have not only found love once, but twice. For the last five years and five months, they have enriched each others lives with love, companionship and joy. While this time together was short, they have clearly defined true love. "The best and most beautiful things in this world Cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart." According to John's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Hainstock's Funeral Home & Crematorium.
