Zephaniah French was born 19 October 1769 in Windham, Windham County, Connecticut Colony to parents John French and Elisabeth Robinson.[1]
In 1850, Zephaniah, age 78 (per census) was living in Grove, Davis County, Iowa, in the household of his son Franklin R. French, and family.[2]
Zephaniah died 27 May 1852, and is buried in Bloomfield, Davis County, Iowa in Bloomfield South Cemetery. His gravestone indicates he was a Mason. It also shows his birth year incorrectly as 1770, and so he was age 82 at death, not 81 as shown on the stone.[3]
