Biography

Name

Name: Elisabeth French

Plymouth Colony and Massachusetts

  • From John Maltby:
Elisabeth French, born ca. 1720,[1] probably in Taunton, married Jonathan Pratt, son of Joseph and Lydia (Leonard) Pratt[2] 3rd, on 11 Nov. 1740 in Bridgewater.[3] He was born ca. 1720,[4] a grandson of Joseph and Sarah (Benson) Pratt (Jr.), of Weymouth.[5] He died testate on 13 Mar. 1775 in Bridgewater, aged 54 years.[6] His will was dated 20 Feb. 1775, witnessed by Joshua Alden, Jeremiah Washburn, and Jonathan Leonard, and was probated on 3 Apr. 1775. He mentioned his wife Elizabeth, son Cornelius Pratt, sons Jeremiah and Ebenezar Pratt, and daughters Lucy and Elizabeth Pratt. He named his son Ebenezar Pratt as executor of his estate, but Ebenezar declined the executorship, and his son Jeremiah Pratt was named as administrator of the estate. She died on 21 Dec. 1794 in Bridgewater, aged 74 years.[7] They had children:[8]
  • Jonathan Pratt Jr., born on 6 July 1741 in Bridgewater, probably died young, not named in the 1775 will of his father.
  • Lucy Pratt, born on 26 Jan. 1743 in Bridgewater, was still living and presumably unmarried in 1775 when her father wrote his will.
  • Ebenezer Pratt, born on 21 Dec. 1744 in Bridgewater, died on 7 Feb. 1745 in Bridgewater.
  • Ebenezer Pratt, born on 17 Dec. 1745 in Bridgewater, died on 28 May 1750 in Bridgewater.
  • Lt. Cornelius Pratt, born on 3 Feb. 1748 in Bridgewater, married Martha Leonard, daughter of Jonathan and Martha (Washburn) Leonard, in ca. 1787. He died on 21 Sept. 1822 in Bridgewater.
  • Elisabeth Pratt, born on 25 Jan. 1751 in Bridgewater, married Anderaus/Andreas/Andrew Veneca/Vinaca/Vinacea on 10 Mar. 1778 in Bridgewater.
  • Jeremiah Pratt, born on 24 Jan. 1753 in Bridgewater, married Anna Bolton, daughter of John and Elizabeth “Betty” (Hayward) Bolton Jr., on 27 Nov. 1777 in Bridgewater.
  • Ebenezer Pratt, born on 13 Nov. 1757 in Bridgewater, married Charity Besse, daughter of Nehemiah and Sarah Besse, in ca. 1780.
