In 1937 he applied for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution Society (open to men who prove their descent from an ancestor who assisted in the American Revolution). His application stated that he was age sixty nine, descendant of Jonathan Plowman who was born in England before 1734 and died in Baltimore, Maryland in 1776. It further stated that he (Arthur) was born in Liberty, County of Adams, State of Illinois on 4 November 1867. His lineage was as follows: 1. son of Reuben Frey born 21 October 1839, died 20 November 1887 and his first wife, Mary Plowman, born 23 August 1847, died 13 April 1884, married 18 January 1867. 2. grandson of John Plowman born 24 May 1822, died 22 September 1907, and his first wife, Sarah Jane Stabler, born 2 March 1830, died 17 August 1876, married 28 February 1846. 3. great-grandson of Jonathan Plowman born 13 December 1792, died 5 October 1844, and his wife Hannah Herbert born 18 January 1797, died 1879, married 1817. 4. great-great-grandson of Jonathon Plowman born 18 August 1766, died after February 1817 and his wife Susannah (Hughes) Sampson born 7 January 1750, died 15 June 1825, married about 1790. 5. great-great-great-grandson of Jonathon Plowman born before 1734, died 1776, and his wife Rebecca Arnold born 1740, died before 25 July 1778, married 7 October 1762.[17][18]

Josephine was a member of the Methodist church in Ford Township and active in its programs. She was also an active worker in the Farm Bureau. In 1945 she suffered a stroke and had been an invalid since then. They lived with their son, Xopharie, and his family.[19]

He died at Sacred Heart Hospital on a Thursday evening following a short illness. He had been hospitalized since the day before. Funeral services were held from the First Methodist Church in Holly with Farthing Funeral Home handling the arrangements.
