Biography

Mary was born to Samuel Buchanan Frost and Rebecca Foreman.

Mary married Jerome Jefferson Adams January 29, 1854 in Fremont County, Iowa. Mary gave birth to four children in Iowa.

In 1861, Mary, Jerome, and two children, John Quincy and William, were part of the William K. McKissick Company wagon train which left Pleasant Grove, Iowa, headed west.

Other families in the company were:

Mary's father and five siblings: Sarah Georgina Frost (Acord), Nancy Frost (Acord), Hettie Frost, Samuel Buchanan Frost, Jr., and James McCasslin Frost.

The Acord family, which included Valentine Louis Acord, the husband of Mary's sister, Nancy Frost; Abrum Acord, the husband of Mary's sister, Nancy Frost; and the children of both families.

Mary gave birth to four more children in Utah, one in Nevada, two more in Utah, and one in Arizona.

Mary and Jerome moved to Mexico in 1889, as part of the exodus of Mormons who went there to avoid prosecution for polygamy, although Jerome doesn't seem to have had more than one wife.

Jerome died in Colonia Diaz, Mexico in 1902.

About 1912, Mary went back to Arizona, where she lived with her children until she died.

Obituary from the Graham Guardian (Arizona), March 28, 1919

Mrs. Mary A. Adams, aged 83 years, died at Thatcher, Wednesday, March 19, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. Richardson

The cause of her death was infirmities of old age, as she was in good health and active up and until two weeks before her death.

She was the mother of twelve children. She was among the pioneers who crossed the plains into the Salt Lake Valley, and knew the Mormon Prophet Joseph Smith.

The funeral services were held Thursday, March 20, 1919 at 3:00 p.m., at the Thatcher church. Interment was made in Thatcher cemetery.
