Suzan was born to Virgil Pierre Fruge and Marie Louise Courville on October 8, 1847 in St Landry Parish,
Louisiana.[1][2] Her death certificate incorrectly says 10 Sep 1846 [3] in the state of Louisiana. She was the fourth of seven children:
Her name was spelled differently at different times, but since her parents were illiterate [4] this is not surprising. I generally use the spelling Suzan as that point was specifically made by my Aunt Mary Eloise Gallier (Suzan's grand-daughter) in a history that she wrote.[5] Her baptismal record from May 12, 1848 spells her name Suzanne P. Fruge so I have updated her profile with that name. [2] However, for now, I will leave the profile written the way I was told by her grand-daughter.
At the age of 18, on May 30, 1865, Suzan married Jacob John Gallier in Beaumont, TX. [6] They lived in Beaumont, TX for their entire marriage. They had the following children, that we know names for:
Suzan gave birth to 12 children though. By the 1900 census only six were living [7] and by the 1910 census only five were living.[8]
Almost six months after the 1910 census, Suzan died on November 7, 1910 of gastritis. She was buried two days later at LaBelle Cemetery in Beaumont, TX. [3]
