Jackie and Joyce, I'm wondering if the merge should go the other way, given her connected father's LNAB has no accent on the e?
posted on Frugé-100 (merged) by Stephanie Ward
I agree. This family name had a lot of variants over time but once in Louisiana they most consistently used Fruge without the accent. Most variants such as Frugia, Fregia were used among family members that moved to Texas. The records in France that I've found did use either Frugie or Fruge with the accent--even varying among children born of the same parents.

I also agree. The use of diacritical marks was mostly dropped in the U.S. since the English alphabet doesn't use them.

And yet someone completed the merge into the profile into the one with the accent. Should we change the LNAB at this point or let it go?

Sorry, we should have reversed the direction and protected it for the merge. I thought Jackie would be the one merging-- Maggie must not have read the comments. I kind of think we should change it, or others down the line might get changed. On the other hand WT discourages excessive merging. What do y'all think, Joyce and Jackie?

I'm in favor of renaming to the correct LNAB. WT discourages excessive merging, but this isn't that. I agree we should've protected it as soon as the decision was made. I nearly always do that, but I didn't expect it to happen so quickly and this one got away. Oh well, live and learn.

I've changed it per above discussion and then realized that perhaps I should have waited for Jackie to weigh in....

And perhaps changes should be made to her siblings who are listed under Frugé. I can do the ones that I manage but others are only managed by the project.
