Biography

Samuel was born in 1729 at Perkiomen, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania[1], son of Benjamin Frey and Cristen Merckle. He married Christena Spears 24 Sep 1767 at Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia[2] and they had three known children.

Samuel was willed 168 acres on the North Fork of the Shenandoah which was likely where the family first lived when coming to Virginia. A deed of 1755 shows Samuel paying for this property [the will did instruct Samuel to pay his siblings for the tract]. He moved to Washington County, Pennsylvania c1768. Samuel is listed in the DAR database. He served in the Infantry, presumably from Virginia.

An old family group sheet says that a Virginia Land Grant issued to him dated 30 Dec 1784 for Revolutionary War Service. Another note stated that a warrant was issued for 293 acres, "Christian's Queen" on Maple Creek adjoining lands of Abraham Frye, the land surveyed for Samuel Frye 23 Nov 1785. "Samuel's Farm", 236 was granted Frederick Cooper, 22 Feb 1780 who afterwards sold the same to Samuel Frye, who had it surveyed 22 Nov 1785.

He died 15 Aug 1814 at Carroll Township, Washington, Pennsylvania[3][4] He was buried in the Samuel Fry Cemetery near Charleroi, Washington, Pensylvania.

The name of Benjamin Frey's wife has been presented many ways, as "Anna Christena", "Christena Anne", "Christian", etc. Benjamin Frey names his wife in his Will as "beloved wife Cristen". Simply understood, she was born Regina Christine, but when married became Christen Frey.

This info is posted on the Merkle-107

Frye-268 and Frey-282 do not represent the same person because: Strike 3, 'Krissi Love' — You just struck Out.

Son of Regina Christine (Merkle) Frey < Frye-268 = Frey-282 > Son of Cristen Ann UNKNOWN The Frye Mother (daughter of Abraham Merkle) | [family name unknown][location unknown] [father unknown] and [mother unknown][sibling(s) unknown][spouse(s) unknown] As different as the open road and a dead-end street.
