Thomasine Fulford was born in about1444 at Great Fulford manor in Dunsford Parish, 9 miles southwest of Exeter, Devonshire, England. She was the daughter of Sir Baldwin Fulford and his wife Jennet Elizabeth (Bozom) Fulford. Sir Baldwin was a celebrated knight and Crusader (1443-1444) who was also the Vice Admiral of England under King Henry VI. He was Sheriff of Devonshire in 1459-61 when, at the beginning of the War of the Roses, he was caught and executed by supporters of newly-proclaimed King Edward IV, the York contender for England's throne against Lancaster-supporter King Henry VI.[1]
In 1463, at 19 years old, Thomasine Fulford married John Wise, Esquire, of Sydenham House, Devonshire. They were both of the "landed gentry" social class who owned several large manors and farms, rented out to tenant farmers. They were not, however, considered as nobility or titled aristocrats and therefore their descendants were eligible to sit in the House of Commons in England's Parliaments.
Thomasine and John Wise had 2 children:[2]
Thomasine Fulford Wise lived at Mount Wise and Sydenham Manor House, both in Devon, until her death in around 1500. An exact date for her death has not been found. At least one family genealogy says she did not die at Sydenham House until 1505. [3]
