Biography

In 1783, Leonard Furr was paying taxes in Cumberland co. NC. In 1785, in Moore co. NC, he was the surety for two different marriages -- John Spivey to Susanna Smith and the marriage of John Stutts to Bathaney Spivey. The next year, in 1786, he received a 50 acre grant in Moore co. NC, located on the Buffalo Creek.

In the 1790 census, Leonard "Furrow" appeared as the head of household with 4 males 0-16, and 5 females.

In 1800, he is living in Moore co. NC.

In 1818, he is living in Lawrence co. MS in that year's state census.

In 1824, he appears on the Mississippi state census that year in Lawrence co. MS. In 1830, he is living in his son Isham's household in Copiah co. MS.

He married <strong>Elizabeth Stutts</strong>.<br><br>Leonard, was the first Furrer Born in North Carolina. Since he was born at the same time his family arrived at Coldwater Creek, his infancy may have been a major factor in his father's decision to remain there. With this in mind, it is ironic to note that all but one of his children left North Carolina to settle elsewhere, and later in life he himself moved to mississippi. Leonard was only 11 years old when his father died in 1769. Although he received an equal value of the estate, he did not inhert any land. He purchased<br>land in Moore County and farmed it. He married Elizabeth Stutts, the sister of his brother's second wife Mary Stutts. The had eight childern: as follows, Leonard, Elizabeth, Jacob, Paul, Henry, Christian, Isham, and Mary.&nbsp; Leonard Jr. remained in North Carolina , Paul left for Georgia, and the rest of the children moved to Mississippi. &nbsp;Some time after 1810, Leonard Sr. moved to Mississippi where he died at the age of 77.
