1810 - convicted in Colchester/Essex Quarter Sessions for stealing stockings
1811 - convicted 7 years transportation to N.S.W. : Susan Gage, alias Susannah Noon - ship Friends
Susan Gage, also known as Susan Noon was one of one hundred females aboard the Friends which sailed on 21st January 1811. Her crime was theft and deception. Claiming to work for a Mrs Walker, a respected woman of the town, she had gone into the shop of Thomas Pod of Colchester and asked "to view some stockings". Susan had left the shop with seventeen pairs on approval, and to alleviate suspicion, actually returned with them later to say her mistress would have them all. Mr. Pod, after wrapping the items, charged the 10 shilling fee to Mrs Walker's account as Susan Gage had requested. Of course Mrs Walker had never seen the stockings and Susan, tried on the 30th April 1810 at Colchester Quarter Sessions, was transported for 7 years.
