Biographie

Marie Marguerite LAUNAY (~1584 - 1640)[1][2][3]

Naissance:
Elle est née vers 1584 dans le Maine. (PREFEN Fiche 14419, Notice)

Mariage:
Avant 1605, Marguerite Launay épousa Louis Gagné, fils de Christophe Gasnier, (PREFEN Fiche 14419).

Enfants connus / Known children: Marie Launay & Louis Gasnier:

1. Noël Gasnier (1605 - )
2. Jacques Gasnier (1607 - )
3. +Pierre Gasnier (1610 - 1656)

Disputed origins

Marie Marguerite Launay's parents are unknown. Some online genealogies give them as Louise Gory and Pierre Launay, making Marie Marguerite a half-sister of Marie Madeleine Michel. This is not confirmed by any reliable source, and is also quite unlikely given the age difference (more than 35 years) between Marie Marguerite Launay and Marie Madeleine Michel.

Research notes

  • In the primary parish records; i.e. children's baptisms and her burial record, she is known only by the name Marie. A source for 'Marguerite' should be specified if one is known.
  • Prefen recorded Marie's DOD as May 17, 1643. This appears to be an error. There is an entry for Marie Launay on that date. See 1643 Record. There is also a 1640 record that supports the Fichier DOD (1640) requires additional review. [4]. Perhaps others can read the handwriting.
  • The 1640 marriage record for Louis and Noëlle Chevalier can be viewed at [6]. Uncertain if this is the father or son. If Marie (the father's first wife died in 1640), it is likely the father's second marriage. At the time, son Louis was married, to, and having children with, Marie Michel (abt.1620-1687).

The Marie Launay who died 16 May 1643 was recorded as the daughter of Jean Launay, so unlikely to have been married. Marie Launay who died 9 April 1640 was the wife (not widow) of Louis Gasnier. The dates for these two have been confused in many secondary sources, but the records seem clear enough.

As for the marriage record, Fichier Origine shows it as a second marriage for the widowed father, which is contingent upon his first wife's death earlier in 1640. The marriage record notes only that Louis was of Saint-Cosme-de-Vert supporting this identification. His own burial record does not mention the name of a wife or widow.

DeLaunay-91 and Launay-1 appear to represent the same person because: Resubmited correctly this time.

Launay-1 and DeLaunay-91 do not represent the same person because: Wrong direction. Resubmit as Launay-91 and DeLaunay-1 instead Launay-1 and DeLaunay-91.

DeLaunay-91 and Launay-1 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate. DeLaunay does not follow French conventions regarding mixed case.

Per fichier Origine, Marie Marguerite Launay's parents are unknown. All we have on her is her children's baptisms and her burial. Nothing to give a clue of her parents. The two profiles currently set as parents were added by a vandal who did not provide a source. I suggest disconnecting them.
