Biography

Alexis Gagné dit Belavance was born on April 11, 1749. He was the son of Alexis Gagné and Marie Catherine Boucher. He was baptized on the same day at St-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Montmagny, Canada, Nouvelle-France [1] [2] [3].

His first marriage was to Marie Anne Letourneau on Oct. 17, 1774 at St-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Montmagny, Province de Québec [4]. Marie Anne died several days after giving birth to their only child together, Marianne.

He then married Marie Josephte Soulard on Feb 10, 1777 at Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, Kamouraska, Province de Québec [5]. She died 5 months after the wedding, on July 18, 1777.

His third marriage, to Madeleine Pelletier, took place on April 27, 1778, at St-Roch-des-Aulnaies, L'Islet, Province de Québec when he was 29 years old [6] [7] [8]. The couple had at least 15 children together. Eleven children were living at the time of his death. Their names and ages were listed in the notarized guardianship agreement that was written at the time [9].

He passed away on Sept. 9, 1798, at the age of 49 years old and was buried on Sept. 11, 1798 at St-Roch-des-Aulnaies, L'Islet, Lower Canada [10]. His son Alexis is among those noted as being present at the burial.

Alexis Gagné dit Belavance naît le 11 avril 1749. Il était le fils de Alexis Gagné et Marie Catherine Boucher. Il a été baptisé le même jour à St-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Montmagny, Canada, Nouvelle-France [1] [2] [3].

Il épouse Marie Anne Letourneau en premières noces le 17 octobre 1774 à St-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Montmagny, Province de Québec [4]. Marie Anne meurt le 18 octobre 1775, quelques jours après la naissance de leur fille unique, Marianne.

Ensuite, il épouse Marie Josephte Soulard le 10 février 1777 à Ste-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, Kamouraska, Province de Québec [5]. Elle meurt seulement 5 mois après son mariage, soit le 18 juillet 1777.

Finalement, il épouse Madeleine Pelletier en troisièmes noces le 27 avril 1778 à St-Roch-des-Aulnaies, L'Islet, Province de Québec [6] [7] [8]. Il avait 29 ans. Le couple avait au moins 15 enfants ensemble. Onze enfants étaient vivants lors de son décès. Leurs noms et âges sont énumérés dans l’accord de tutelle notarisé [9].

Il est décédé le 9 septembre 1798 à l'âge de 49 ans et il a été inhumé le 11 septembre 1798 à St-Roch-des-Aulnaies, L'Islet, Bas-Canada [10]. Son fils Alexis est noté parmi les présences aux sépultures.
